What is the Kalkaska County Agricultural Fair's FLAG PROJECT? Throughout the Village of Kalkaska*, on seven holidays throughout the year, beginning with Trout Saturday (certainly a local holiday), a group of dedicated volunteers will come to your business or residence and place a flag. This will happen either the day before or the morning of the holiday. Volunteers will then remove the flag at the end of the day or the next day. You get to show your patriotism and support your County Fair at the same time, for only $30! The seven holidays are : Trout Saturday, Armed Forces Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, and Patriots' Day. In addition, the committee will fly flags for Veterans' Day along US 131 in downtown Kalkaska.
This would make a perfect gift for the person/couple who has everything or to honor the Vet(s) in your life. You may also make a donation of $30 to the Project to help place flags in front of government agencies such as the Library or Commission on Aging or on public property such as the Fairgrounds or Railroad Square.
This FLAG PROJECT has grown a hundredfold under the leadership of Veteran Bobby Bishop. He has grown this project to over 250 subscriptions throughout the Village. There are a few spaces left in this project and plenty of space for more volunteers. If you are interested in either, please call Bobby at 231-384-5498. *Right now, this project is only available within the Village. If we were to have an influx of dedicated individuals willing to commit to helping within their township(s), we would happily expand.
